Robin Lynn Parr, RN, BSN, OCN
Robin Parr has worked as a nurse for 16 years, over eleven spent at the Oncology Center of Central Baltimore.  Robin describes her job as working with Dr. Walker and other members of the health care team to coordinate the best possible treatment plan.  Robin understands that most patients feel completely overwhelmed when they are first diagnosed.  Because of this, she encourages patients to bring a family member or friend to each visit to provide a second set of ears when she is going over the treatment plan.  Robin says “I feel that it is important to treat each patient as if they were your own family member.  I want them to feel comfortable and be able to trust the decisions made during this time.”  She also feels that Dr. Walker understands this same thing about patients.  The “doctor examines patients weekly while they are undergoing treatment, and he is always on site to handle any problems and answer any patient concerns.”

Robin tries to go the extra mile by calling patients to see how they are feeling after treatment and by visiting them if they get admitted to the hospital.  She also stays late when patients have extra needs that need to be attended to like arranging for transportation or admission.  “When you walk into the office there is a sense of caring in the atmosphere because of the way we treat one another.  The staff is always compassionate to each other as well as to the patients.  We talk and sometimes joke, which in turn, helps patients feel comfortable and forget for a moment why they are here … I feel enormous satisfaction in being able to help patients and their families.  The fact that I can help them cope with this difficult situation is very gratifying.  I am proud to be a part of such a wonderful group of people.  Dr. Walker is a special kind of person and is great to work for.  I have known him for over 16 years and feel very grateful to have been chosen to work with him.  He treats his patients as well as his staff with the utmost respect.  I would refer him to anyone in my family if needed.”
